How to Use the Image to PDF Builder
Combine 1 to 30 JPG, PNG, or WEBP images into a clean, print-ready PDF document with customizable page size, orientation, margins, and image placement.
- 1
Upload up to 30 JPG, PNG, or WEBP images
Click the upload area or drag and drop one or more images into the workspace. Each image is validated locally and added to the visual queue with its thumbnail, pixel dimensions, format, and byte size.
- 2
Reorder or manage your image queue
Each image in the queue creates one page in your PDF from top (#1) to bottom. Use the Move Up, Move Down, and Remove buttons on any row to arrange the exact page sequence.
- 3
Configure PDF page size, orientation, margins, and placement
Choose Page Size (`Fit to Image`, `A4`, or `US Letter`). When using `A4` or `US Letter`, select Orientation (`Auto`, `Portrait`, or `Landscape`), Page Margin (`None 0 mm`, `Small 5 mm`, `Medium 10 mm`, or `Large 15 mm`), and Image Placement (`Fit inside page`, `Fill page`, or `Center image`).
- 4
Build and download your PDF document
Click Convert Images to PDF. Once compiled, inspect the ready banner showing page count and byte size, and click Download PDF to save your `.pdf` file.
Understanding PDF Page Layouts for Images
Submitting multiple separate photo files for receipts, signed forms, ID cards, or lecture notes is inconvenient and often rejected by document portals that allow only a single `.pdf` upload. The AllToolsFree Image to PDF Builder compiles up to 30 raster images into one standards-compliant PDF document locally in your browser using `pdf-lib`.
Depending on whether your PDF will be viewed on screen or printed on physical paper, you can either wrap each PDF page tightly around the exact pixel dimensions of each image (`Fit to Image`) or place every image onto standardized `A4` (`210 × 297 mm`) or `US Letter` (`8.5 × 11 in`) pages with consistent white margins.
Common Practical Use Cases
- Combining smartphone photos of expense receipts, invoices, or handwritten notes into a single A4 or US Letter PDF for reimbursement or grading.
- Assembling design mockups, storyboards, or photography portfolios using Fit to Image mode so every page matches the exact aspect ratio of its artwork.
- Creating a printable multi-page handout from PNG diagrams or WEBP screenshots with 10 mm or 15 mm printer margins.
- Converting a single JPG or PNG scan of an ID card or signed form into a `.pdf` file required by an online application portal.
How Page Size, Auto Orientation, and Placement Modes Work
When Page Size is set to `Fit to Image`, each PDF page’s width and height are set directly to the pixel dimensions of that image—meaning orientación, margins, and placement controls are bypassed and zero cropping or whitespace padding occurs. When you choose `A4` or `US Letter`, all pages use standard print dimensions, and setting Orientation to `Auto` intelligently rotates individual pages to Landscape whenever a queued image is wider than it is tall (`width > height`).
On `A4` and `US Letter` pages, the three placement modes control how each image maps into the printable area (inside your chosen 0 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm, or 15 mm margin): `Fit inside page` scales the entire image proportionally so nothing is cropped; `Fill page` scales and center-crops the image so it fills 100% of the printable box without white bars; and `Center image` keeps smaller graphics at their original size when they already fit inside the page while scaling down oversized photos to fit.
Helpful Tips to Avoid Common Mistakes
- Use `A4` or `US Letter` with `Auto` orientation and `Fit inside page` when combining a mix of portrait phone photos and landscape screenshots intended for printing.
- Use `Fit to Image` when building a digital slide deck or comic/portfolio PDF that will only be viewed on screens.
- Add a `5 mm` or `10 mm` margin on A4/US Letter PDFs if you plan to print the document on an office inkjet or laser printer that cannot print edge-to-edge.
- If you change any page setting or reorder images after generating a PDF, an amber notice reminds you to click Convert Images to PDF again to update the download file.
Image to PDF Builder Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Fit to Image and A4 / US Letter page sizes?
Fit to Image creates each PDF page at the exact dimensions of that specific image with no margins or white space. A4 and US Letter place every image onto standardized print-sized pages (595.28 × 841.89 pt for A4, 612 × 792 pt for US Letter) where you can configure margins, orientation, and placement.
How does Auto orientation work when my queue has both portrait and landscape photos?
In Auto mode on A4 or US Letter pages, the builder checks each image individually: portrait and square images are placed on a Portrait page, while wide images (width greater than height) are placed on a Landscape page automatically.
What is the difference between Fit inside page, Fill page, and Center image?
Fit inside page scales the image proportionally so the entire picture is visible inside the margins without cropping. Fill page scales and center-crops the image to completely fill the printable area. Center image places small images at 1:1 size in the center of the page and scales down images that are larger than the printable box.
How are transparent PNG or WEBP images handled inside the generated PDF?
Transparent PNG and WEBP images are composited onto a clean white (#FFFFFF) background before embedding into the PDF so transparent regions always appear crisp and white.
